Carolyn Whitmore presents her collection of abstract paintings at Prism Arts & Other Fine Things February 2023.
---
Carolyn - who grew up in the Chicago area - moved in Santa Fe during the COVID era through way of Nashville where she was working in medical research. From a family of creatives and artists, Carolyn had stashed away her paints through her young adult years until recently when she connected with non-figurative abstract ideas and concepts. She noted upon delivery of her large paintings that straight lines have never been her thing, but that layering colors and expressions onto canvas and panels really felt good to her as she rediscovered her visual artistry in recent years. You can feel her emotions through the depth of layers, coarse brush strokes, and hues of colors throughout her works. Her works will be available at Prism from February - April 2023.

"Flashbacks" (above) by Carolyn Whitmore (36"x48") is an oil-stick on canvas production that screams chaos, yet forms a nicely knit collage of primary colors that eases the viewer and creates a calming space. The layering of oil-stick oscillations creates strength in how it builds upon the sky blue backdrop.

"Hope Restored" (above) by Carolyn Whitmore (36"x48") is a oil on canvas painting that immediately draws the viewer into the Santa Fe feels of yellow and reds against blue-green and turquoise colors - a sense of the vibrancy of walking along Alameda street whereas high desert meets adobe and the mixing of various cultures. This painting incorporates both building up and removal of various paint and medium layers, providing exceptional texture.
